Child Trafficking; Plateau police intercept Trucks Conveying 145 Minors. The police yesterday intercepted 2 trucks conveying 145 boys age between 4 and 8 years to Jos the capital of plateau state. The trucks were said to have originated from Jigawa and Bauchi state.

Plateau state command public relations officer Terna Tyopev said his investigation revealed that these children were to be sent to Plateau, Nasarawa and Kaduna states. He also said that these children all male were to be taken to locations even the co-coordinators of their movement did not know about.

Already, the Plateau state police command is liaising with the Plateau chapter of the Islamic body Jama’atu Nasril Islam and other relevant stake holders to establish contact with the Jigawa and Bauchi government for the safe return of the children to their parents.

The PPRO also assured that the police has initiated an investigation and  will ensure those behind the act are  brought to book.

While it is primarily the responsibility of the state and national security agencies to protect lives and property, it is also every citizen’s duty to make this job more easy by been vigilant especially in the current times where Nigeria’s security generally is under serious threat. It is our collective responsibility as citizens and parents to report suspicious activities or gathering of young children we might notice around us.

More than cause embarrassment to plateau state in this instance as noted by the PPRO of plateau state police command Mr Terna Tyopav, this trend if not checked and checked urgently, is the beginning of another recruitment and training efforts by terrorist for another face and level of terrorism in the country that perhaps we may never be able to recover from if allowed to go through.

Even where it may not necessarily be in huge numbers, it is better to be safe than sorry and so reporting such gatherings should be our little contributions to ensure innocent children do not end up suffering untold hardship in the hands of radicals of any sort.
